ORLANDO, Fla. — It may almost be November, but the Leafy Greens Council figures it’s not too late to go to school.
The St. Paul, Minn.-based council is partnering with foodservice operator Sodexo to reach children in 2,400 elementary and 1,300 secondary schools in the U.S. and Canada during Spinach Month in November, according to a news release.
At an Oct. 16 council meeting during the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit 2010, Ray Clark, council executive director, said Sodexo’s A to Z Salad Bar is promoting the effort.
Promotions include posters for lunchrooms, flyers with recipes to be sent home to parents, memo pads, stickers and word games, according to a news release.
The promotion incorporates themes such as:
- “Eat Right to Stay Bright;”
- “Spinach Contains Nutrients that Build Strong Bones;” and
- Feed Your Brain to Perform Your Best.”
The Spinachraptor character also will play a role, according to the release, and Sodexo plans to feature cabbage in January.
