The New Jersey Department of Agriculture has named Rose Tricario director of the department’s food and nutrition division.
She replaces Emma Davis Kovacs, who retired in 2010.
The division provides 2,800 school lunch programs and 1,800 school breakfast programs, according to a news release. It also oversees meal programs at adult and child day care agencies and other food distribution programs.
Most recently, Tricario was food service director with the Jackson school district in New Jersey where she launched a breakfast program and helped open two new schools.
“With the recent passage of the federal Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, we are at a turning point for school nutrition programs in fighting the obesity epidemic and encouraging healthy choices in school,” Tricario said in the release.
