The Produce Marketing Association and two industry leaders will host a food safety workshop for Florida growers who cater to the locally grown market.

PMA, Sysco Corp. and PrimusLabs will hold the one-day workshop Oct. 13 in Orlando, Fla., according to an association news release.

The workshop will begin with a presentation by PMA food safety experts, who will provide a short history of food safety and discuss the importance of creating a culture of food safety.

A Sysco representative will then discuss the importance of food safety to the foodservice giant and outline its locally grown program. In the afternoon session, Primus officials will discuss how to build a customized food safety program and the basics of a third party audit.

The workshop also will feature talks by a chef and a restaurateur on food safety and local sourcing.
