Royal Rose is kicking off its 2011 radicchio marketing campaign by promoting recipe and pairing ideas for National Spaghetti Day on Jan. 4.
“Radicchio goes wonderfully with spaghetti,” said Marci Bracco, a spokeswoman for Salinas, Calif.-based Royal Rose. “We will launch a year-long campaign in January, starting with monthly recipes as a way to incorporate radicchio in your life.”
Initial suggestions include substituting spaghetti for other pastas in recipes online at www.radicchio.com/linguini-with-sauteed-shrimp-and-radicchio and www.radicchio.com/pasta-with-radicchio-and-bacon.
The company also plans to offer cooking demos on social media like Facebook, and to publicize radicchio’s nutritional benefits.
In February, Royal Rose will collaborate with four Monterey County restaurants on a fundraiser for the American Heart Association, Bracco said. Fandango in Pacific Grove and Mundaka in Carmel are participating; two more are yet to be confirmed.
Each week in February, the restaurants will offer a new recipe with radicchio and donate $1 from each meal to the heart association.
“We’re looking to do three to four quarterly events,” Bracco said. One will be an educational campaign for children during National Nutrition Month in March.
