MONTREAL — Next month, Muranaka Farm, Moorpark, Calif., plans to ship from a Los Angeles facility.

Vice president of sales and marketing John Killeen said April 14 at the Canadian Produce Marketing Association annual convention that the company has been shipping some product from the L.A. distribution center since November, but some time in May, it plans to ship exclusively from there.

He said it’s about 15,000 square feet of racked rooms in a cold storage facility.

“We were just getting too tight in Moorpark,” Killeen said.

Muranaka Farm grows and ships a handful of vegetables, specializing in year-round supplies of radishes and green onions.

Their facility in Moorpark was a wooden rat trap shed with water leaking reefer trucks, constantly running to try and keep tons of produce which did not fit in the "cooler", from turning bad. They couldn't get permits and stood to lose all their business if a customer should ever actually look at that facility. OF COURSE they moved to rented cooler space in LA, it was a life saving maneuver.
