CHICAGO — 3M, St. Paul, Minn., used Pack Expo 2012 Oct. 28-31 at McCormick Place to introduce its 3M AccuGlide Taping Head NPH.

The narrow profile taping head is designed to fit any case sealing system quickly and easily.

“We hear from many customers that they wish they could switch their tapes and case sealing systems in their operations, but they can’t afford to completely change them out,” said Gary Robbins, U.S. equipment marketing manager, 3M industrial adhesives and tapes division.

“The ability to quickly and cost-effectively solve many packaging problems by simply changing the taping heads on their existing equipment accommodates this need And this is an ideal tape head for fresh produce. About 20% of our tape head business comes from fresh produce companies and other food companies.”

The new system enables any case sealing system to achieve throughput speeds of up to 100 feet per minute.

According to Robbins, the biggest reasons for packaging professionals to make the switch may be their desire to use

AccuGlide NPH heads are available at no charge with any qualifying 3M system tape agreement. 3M also offers a trial order offer.

The new taping head is a $1,929 value, Robbins said, though the head itself is not sold separately — only in conjunction with an agreement.

Robbins said 3M has received 47 orders for agreements with the new taping heads, with a typical deal running around $11,000. About 20% of 3M’s tape head business comes from fresh produce companies and other food companies, he said.
