Columbus, Ohio-based wholesaler DNO Inc. has added two employees to its expanded logistics effort, said Tony DiNovo, president.
The company has brought in Rob Hartzell as general manager and Jim Timmons as transportation manager, DiNovo said.
“We have put a lot of emphasis on logistics and hired those two people to head up the program,” DiNovo said.
Hartzell, who started with DNO in June, had been operations manager at a Wal-Mart distribution center in London, Ky., from 2007-13. Before that, he was a general manager for Atlanta-based AmeriCold Logistics LLC from 2004-06.
“We had others doing logistics, but you get to doing a lot of interstate stuff, and we thought we’d get somebody out of the logistics business with a produce background, and he had a good logistics background,” DiNovo said of Hartzell.
Timmons, who arrived at DNO in September, brought 20 years in logistics experience. In his new position, he is in charge of all routing, DiNovo said.
“We were pretty sure we needed somebody that would do the hands-on getting trucks out on time, knowing how much weight was on the truck, making sure you have the right driver,” DiNovo said.
He said the company’s growth has been remarkable.
“We’ve probably doubled our refrigerated space in our second building and we’re going to add on more,” he said.
The company also nearly doubled its processing space this year, he said.
The company also was upgrading its sanitation program, a process that was scheduled to be completed in November, DiNovo said.
DNO also is installing software from JustFoodERP, DiNovo said.
The software is designed to streamline food safety and manage compliance and other procedures.
“It’s a comprehensive program to coordinate our logistics, processing, wholesale business and even our maintenance and procurement under one big package,” DiNovo said.
