Feeding America San DiegoA hunger relief organization in San Diego will benefit from the presence of the United Fresh Produce Association’s 2013 show, with IFCO Systems planning to donate reusable plastic containers used on the expo floor.

Fred Heptinstall, president and general manager of IFCO Systems US, Tampa, Fla., said in a news release the company is making the donations an annual tradition.

IFCO Systems“Providing RPCs is one of many ways to support organizations like Feeding America San Diego, which will use them to improve productivity throughout their supply chain and decrease their carbon footprint,” Heptinstall said in the release.

The donated containers are destined for use by the “School’s Out, Hunger is Not” program operated by Feeding America San Diego, program executive director Jennifer Gilmore said in the release. The program helps meet the needs of hungry children during the summer.

“The IFCO RPCs are an efficient, environment-friendly way for us to transport food and other products for our direct-to-client programs and partner agencies,” Gilmore said in the release.

Feeding America San Diego distributed more than 21.5 million pounds of food in the past year, with an estimated 73,000 children and senior citizens benefitting each week, according to the release.
