Import brokerage veterans start new company

Two former partners in a Miami import brokerage operation are returning to the industry.

The Miami-based operation opened May 1 and specializes in fresh produce but also handles fish and other dry and frozen cargo, according to a news release.

Bermudez and Compres left the industry after Crowley Holdings Inc., the holding company of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Crowley Maritime Corp., purchased Customized Brokers in 2009.

Advance Customs Brokers & Consulting LLC After fulfilling contractual agreements with Crowley, Bermudez and Compres return to their field of expertise and bring a combined 45 years of brokering experience, according to the release.

“As changes in industry import regulations continue, the need for knowledge and guidance is very evident,” the release stated. “Governmental regulations and related issues, such as Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism, Food Safety Modernization Act, Importer Self Assessment and various other regulations, are a growing challenge for importers.”
