Intermec's handheld mobile computer aids in track and trace

CHICAGO — At Pack Expo 2012 Oct. 28-31 at McCormick Place, Everett, Wash.-based Intermec Inc. introduced a handheld mobile computer to aid in the trackability and traceability of fresh produce and unveiled results of a study identifying the value of rugged solutions to warehouse/distribution center customers, said Traci Hoch-Werthner, account manager for Waggener Edstrom Worldwide, representing Intermec.

“Intermec does a great deal of work in track and trace, and their products have helped a number of companies in the produce industry, including LoBue Citrus,” Hoch-Werthner said.

Intermec on Oct. 29 officially launched the newest products in its CK3 Next Generation series — the CK3X and the CK3R — both of which feature extended battery life, enhanced bar code scanning and compliance for emerging industry standards such as HTML5.

The CK3X is ideal for distribution center and warehouse applications, said Dan Albaum, senior marketing director, while the CK3R is best-suited for retail front-of-store and light industrial applications.

The new mobile computer systems are specially geared for multi-purpose uses, said Bruce Stubbs, director of industry marketing. They allow customers to seamlessly migrate to the latest technology without additional investment in chargers, docking stations or scan handles.

The CK3X provides what the company calls “unsurpassed scanning performance on 1D and 2D bar codes, including the ability to read poor quality or damaged codes. The scan engines also offer support for omni-directional scanning and high motion tolerance for improved efficiency.”

The machine’s battery is designed to last through an eight-hour work shift and longer.

The CK3R offers slightly smaller size and weight.
