Making its entrance into the national market, J&J Produce Inc., is expanding its Georgia and Tennessee packing operations.
By adding refrigerated repacking rooms, pre-coolers and a cucumber and pepper line, the Loxahatchee, Fla.-based grower-shipper increased its refrigeration capacity in its White Pine, Tenn., operation by nearly 50%.
J&J also plans to more than double its refrigeration capacity at its Adel, Ga., operation.
The improvements come as J&J increases its planted acreage by 33%, according to a news release.
J&J officials also attribute the upgrades to an influx of business.
Though J&J typically packs in Tennessee July through September, the cooling improvements should help the company run the operation throughout the year, Brian Rayfield, J&J’s vice president of business development and marketing, said in the release.
“With J&J’s movement into the national market, expanding our operations and facilities, and increasing our locally grown volumes, is all a part of the strategic growth plan to help continue our forward movement,” Rayfield said in the release.
J&J grows and manages 3,000 acres of cucumbers, bell peppers, squash, eggplant and tomatoes in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Texas, Arizona, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
