KINGSVILLE, Ontario — A distribution center under construction at Mastronardi Produce Ltd. will almost double the size of the greenhouse grower-shipper’s headquarters.
Work on the site adjacent to current Mastronardi offices began in the fall, said Chris Veillon, marketing director.
He said the company plans to have the 72,000-square-foot expansion operating by summer when its Ontario greenhouses are in full harvest mode. Veillon said the company’s last major expansion was in 2010.
The new space is completely refrigerated and will include packing lines and storage space with zoned temperature controls, Veillon said. The additional capacity is needed because the company has an additional 100 acres of greenhouse vegetables under its operations umbrella for 2013.
Paul Mastronardi, president of the company known for its Sunset brand, said in a news release that the new distribution facility will help Mastronardi Produce meet the needs of its key partners in North America.
