Current pistachio recalls by at least three companies are all related to a recall by ARO Pistachio Inc. that includes many pistachio products processed during 2012 at ARO’s Terra Bella, Calif., facility.

Adam Orandi, ARO owner, said his company initiated its recall June 5.

Orandi said salmonella was found at his processing facility, but added neither FDA nor ARO has found salmonella in any finished products. He said he is not aware of any illnesses related to the pistachios.

“A number of our customers have worked with the FDA to recall related products. We have also begun a root cause analysis of this situation,” Ormandi said.

As of July 18, Western Mixers Produce & Nut Co. and Torn & Glasser Inc., both based in Los Angeles, were recalling a variety of pistachio pack styles and sizes. Details on those recalls are available from FDA at tinyurl.com/PistachioRecalls.

A third company, Christophers Nut Co., Van Nuys, Calif., has an ongoing recall of ARO processed pistachios from the 2012 season. That recall began in December and also cites possible salmonella contamination.

None of the companies reported the volumes being recalled. Western Mixers Produce distributed their Treasured Harvest branded pistachios in California, Nevada, Ohio and Utah. They were further distributed through unspecified retailers, mail order and other distributors from Oct. 17, 2012, through May 28 this year.
