“We expect to see between 50% and 75% of our electricity costs disappear,” said John Burton, general manager of sales.

Construction began in April and was completed in June.

The company contracted the projected with the San Luis Obispo, Calif., regional office of REC Solar.

“With power costs expected to increase over the next 10 years we needed to be proactive in our efforts to stabilize our overhead to cool our own and our customers’ fruits and vegetables,” Burton said. “We will jump at the opportunity anytime we can reduce our carbon footprint and our cost to operate our cooler.”

Coachella, Calif.-based Peter Rabbit Farms grows romaine and romaine hearts, green- red-leaf lettuce, butter leaf lettuce, eggplants, bell peppers, bunch spinach and other crops.
