LabelBling, from New Kensington, Pa.-based Yerecic Label, uses new techniques to create an upscale look at an affordable price for fresh produce growers, packers and shippers, said Rich Thoma, the company’s vice president of sales and marketing.
Holographic films, sparkle inks and embossing are among the features LabelBling offers to draw attention to produce packs.
Yerecic created the line to grab consumers’ attention in the produce aisle, Thoma said. The “bling” elements are ones normally associated with higher-margin grocery items, not produce.
“How do we interrupt the shopper for that extra second?” Thoma said. “We decided we needed something that consumers aren’t used to seeing in produce.”
Attention-grabbing packaging is often out of the fiscal reach of produce shippers working on slim margins, Thoma said. But LabelBling costs either the same or just slightly more than conventional labeling, he said.
Yerecic Label will mail free samples of LabelBling to interested customers. The company will feature the new product at United Fresh 2013 in San Diego, at booth #941.
