The Allen Lund Co., a La Cañada, Calif.-based third-party transportation broker, has provided the transportation of relief supplies to schools in Haiti that were damaged by the earthquake in January 2010.
The flatbed division of the company arranged for a flatbed truck to transport an ocean container holding 590 desks and chairs donated by Virco Manufacturing Corp., a classroom furniture supplier, to Miami. From Miami, the ocean container should arrive in Haiti in April, according to a company release.
Relief organizations have worked to rebuild the Hands Together free schools after they sustained damage from the earthquake in 2010. They are now fully operational.
“The children of Haiti who attend the Hands Together free schools have always had to attend classes in rather primitive conditions,” Karl Holtsinder, Mission Haiti coordinator for Holy Family Church of Pasadena, said in the release. “For the senior high school students, this will be the first time in their lives that they will have real desks.”
The company has also provided transportation of relief supplies, including water trucks and generators, to Haiti in the past.
