A third-party auditor has gained approval to implement a set of standards that helps food packaging manufacturers become compliant with the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point food safety system.

The Packaging Association, Toronto, recently approved Intertek as a third-party auditor for PACsecure, a set of voluntary food packaging standards that apply to flexible plastic, rigid plastic and paper packaging, according to a news release.

The association developed PACsecure in partnership with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Intertek, a London-based management systems certification body, also offers inspection services and packaging testing laboratory services, according to the release.

Standards for glass and metal packaging are in development.
