The fire-retardant Falconboard Build display board from packaging maker Pregis Hexacomb has been certified by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The certification ensures that the produce meets the minimum requirements of flame resistance.

Designed for three-dimensional, point-of-purchase applications in places such as trade shows and retail stores, the display board has a clay-coated print surface that can handle most inks and adhesives, according to a news release from the Deerfield, Ill.-based company.

“The product is one of the first paper-based substrates to have achieved the rating. Now retailers, consumer product companies and trade show exhibitors can meet fire marshal requirements, have a great printable media solution and be fully recyclable at end of life,” Jeff Kellar, president of Hexacomb, said in the release.

The company now has its sights set on the European market.

“Samples are currently in test in Europe to validate Falconboard Build FR against similar European fire-retardant requirements. Our goal is to achieve pan-European and country-specific fire rating compliance to support our launch into the marketplace,” Kellar said in the release.
