The American division of a leading Canadian importer has added avocados to its product roster.
Gloucester, N.J.-based Fisher Capespan USA LLC, a division of St. Laurent, Quebec-based Fisher Capespan Inc., will import avocados from Mexico, Chile, the Dominican Republic and Peru, according to a company news release.

Fisher Capespan also will source California-grown avocados. All fruit will come through a cold storage facility in Santa Ana, Calif. Gahl Crane, who formerly worked for Orange, Calif.-based Prime Produce International LLC, has been named the company’s director of avocado sales.
Fisher Capespan’s goal is to supply avocados year-round, Marc Solomon, the company’s president and chief executive officer, said in the release.
Expanding into avocados was a natural fit, Solomon said, given that Fisher Capespan currently sources other commodities from countries in which avocados are grown.
The company’s focus, Solomon said, has been on grapes, citrus and apples from Chile, Peru, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico.
