Food safety firm opens California lab

Silliker Inc., Homewood, Ill., has opened a facility in Salida, Calif., according to a news release.

The new building offers twice as much laboratory space as the company’s old building in Modesto, Calif.

Silliker operates an international network of food safety and consulting laboratories, according to the release.

“Our opening marks the culmination of over two years of planning and the beginning of a new chapter in the area of customer service for Silliker,” Johannes Burlin, the company’s president of North America, said in the release. “This new facility significantly increases both our space and capabilities, and will allow us to provide our clients with top level services and localized customer attention.”

The site features innovative workstations and robotic automation.Silliker moved its staff from the old location into the Salida facility in early January, according to the release.

“The lab’s design allows us to achieve optimum sample flow, meet increases in sample volume, better manage process changes and seamlessly incorporate new testing and technology innovations,” Robert Colvin, vice president of operations, said in the release.

Silliker provides testing, auditing, consulting and training to customers ranging from food manufacturers and restaurants to caterers and retailers, according to its Web site.
