(Aug. 30) Jim Miller and Joe Gabree sold their business and joined the competition.

Miller and Gabree, who started Suwanee, Ga.-based Vortex Manufacturing Group Inc. two years ago, are going to work for Gasport, N.Y.-based Ag-Pak Inc.

“They have tremendous knowledge and experience and a large following in the industry,” said Ag-Pak vice president and majority owner Andy Currie. “They have excellent reputations. Picking them up is a real big move for us.”

Miller started Aug. 15 and will share Ag-Pak’s sales manager role with Ed Savigny. Gabree is expected to start in mid-September and will oversee customer service.

Vortex manufactures baggers and carries a line of washers from the Haith Tickhill Cos., Doncaster, England. Miller and Gabree sold Vortex but retained their interests as part-owners of Suwanee-based Affeldt Packaging Machinery LLC, which distributes parts for weighing, counting, bagging and boxing equipment made by Neuendorf, Germany-based Affeldt Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH.

“This gives us the capability of servicing Affeldt equipment,” Currie said, “and there’s a lot of Affeldt equipment out there.”

Ag-Pak also manufacturers baggers and is a distributor of Newtec, C-Pack, Jasa and Gillenkirch equipment.
