(Oct. 13, 3:10 p.m.) Giumarra Nogales, the Nogales, Ariz.-based division of The Giumarra Cos., plans to ship Mexican produce from two locations this fall, adding a location at the Border Cold Storage in Pharr, Texas.
Border Cold Storage is a 500,000-square-foot facility that opened June 15. Its main purpose is to be a more cost-effective option for shippers that would normally go through Nogales to ship through the East Coast, but are looking to save freight cost, Tyler Morgan, president, said in July.
This is the first time Giumarra-Nogales has shipped from the McAllen/Pharr, Texas area, said Nick Rendon, division sales manager for Giumarra.
“Since most of our customers buy f.o.b., this makes it easier for customers who can pick up there,” Rendon said.
The company plans to ship its full line, including peppers, greenhouse peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes, cantaloupes, grapes and watermelons, as well as an organic line, from the facility starting mid-November.
