Leamington, Ontario-based Highline Mushrooms has raised more than $11,000 to aid Haitians affected by the devastating earthquake.

The fundraising effort started when Fritz Clerge, a farm associate at Highline’s Leamington farm and a native Haitian, approached Joel Wasson, the company’s director of human resources, with the idea of helping his countrymen, according to a Highline news release.

The donations have come from workers at the company’s Leamington and Kingsville, Ontario, farms. The company is matching all worker donations.

Highline also has a farm in Wellington, Ontario, and a distribution center in Montreal. Those facilities also are raising money for Haitian relief.

Funds are being donated to the Canadian Red Cross.
