(April 7, 3:37 p.m.) The Philadelphia Regional Port Authority has hired Moffatt & Nichol, a worldwide engineering firm specializing in maritime infrastructure, to perform a strategic assessment of all port marine terminals, warehouses and other facilities.
The goal of the comprehensive assessment will be to provide the board of directors information to guide planning.
“This assessment will give us the informational tools required to successfully implement the cargo initiatives we want to accomplish as well as help us to develop new initiatives,” port authority executive director James McDermott Jr. said in a news release. “Moffatt & Nichol will take a long, hard look at our facilities and at the marketplace and make independent, expert recommendations for the board to consider.”
According to a news release from Long Beach, Calif.-based Moffatt & Nichol, the objective is to make recommendations on construction projects, whether facilities can be rehabilitated, reconstructed or replaced over the next 10 years. The study includes market assessments, an analysis of current capacity and forecasted growth. Financial assessments regarding all aspects of existing structures and projected future facilities also will be included.
The assessment is expected to be completed by September.
