(March 20, 1:20 p.m.) Progreso Produce Ltd. is expanding its volume of Florida-grown fruit through a new deal with Bartow, Fla.-based Clear Springs Packing LLC.

Under the agreement, the Boerne, Texas-based company plans to market blueberries, watermelon strawberries and cantaloupe.

“Our expanding business in year-round watermelons continually has us looking for new partnerships that allow us to best serve our customers,” said Curtis Deberry, president of Progreso Produce, in a news release.

For Clear Springs Packing and its customers, it’s business as usual, said Kenny Nova, general manager, in a news release. Clear Springs is maintaining its sales staff, company name and labels.

“As a fairly new grower-shipper previously focused on local blueberries, we are excited by the opportunity to partner with Progreso Produce and use their expertise in global sourcing to expand our year-round supplies and increase our volume and plant efficiencies,” Nova said in the release.

Blueberries started shipping in mid-march under the deal and are available through May under the Clear Springs label.

The companies plan to develop the program into a year-round deal sourcing blueberries from Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, Michigan, Argentina and Chile.

Watermelon, cantaloupe and strawberries are expected to start shipping in the fall.
