Silliker Inc., a Chicago-based national and international network of food testing and consulting laboratories, has opened a facility in Lakeland, Fla.

The new laboratory provides food testing services along with the company’s other 60 worldwide locations, 13 of which are in the U.S., according to a news release. The company provides testing, auditing, consulting, training and research services for processors, retailers and distributors.

“Lakeland resides in one of the state’s most robust business regions, providing us with an ideal geographical base to serve area processors, manufacturers, retailers, distributors and foodservice establishments,” Johannes Burlin, president of Silliker North America, said in the release.

The company’s industrial performance operations and quality departments worked with Lakeland-based Wallis Murphey Boyington Architects to build the laboratory.

The laboratory meets Florida standards and the Geneva, Switzerland-based International Organization for Standardization operational requirements for food testing laboratories. The facility is working to achieve ISO 17025 through the Frederick, Md.-based American Association for Laboratory Accreditation.

“The food industry faces a myriad of safety and quality challenges, many of which are distilled in the Food and Drug Administration’s new Food Safety and Modernization Act,” Burlin said in the release. “Silliker has long been a trusted partner of food companies and our commitment to expanding our solution services to additional regions throughout North America has never been stronger.”

The new laboratory is at 2525 Drane Field Road in the West Lakeland Business Park.
