SG Systems LLC, Dallas, will be the new traceability software provider for Avondale, Pa.-based To-Jo Fresh Mushrooms Inc. The objective of SG’s traceability and labeling system will be to make To-Jo fully compliant and up to speed with the forthcoming Produce Traceability Initiative.
The SG system contains touch screen terminals and label printers which label incoming product with information relating to the lot number, product, sales order, country of origin and global trade item number, according to a release from To-Jo Mushrooms. That allows full product traceback to the incoming lot number.
“SG Systems is the right company to invest in to meet our case labeling requirements to address the PTI,” Mike Wood, vice president of operations at To-Jo, said in the release.
Wood made his comments after making a visit to FreshPoint in Dallas, where the system was in operation.
“They have a consultative approach to problem solving, which is important to us when choosing a vendor to provide us with the tightest possible traceability in line with PTI,” Wood said. “Their system is simple to use. FreshPoint is very happy with the product.”
The installation of SG Systems is the first phase for To-Jo in providing case level traceability. Phase two involves product line portion control to monitor operator productivity and increase weight consistency in packing product, according to the release.
“To-Jo is committed to staying on the forefront of produce traceability, and this system will allow us to do so,” Wood said in the release.
