San Antonio, Tex.-based Desert Glory Ltd., growers of the NatureSweet brand of tomatoes, has added to the line with the launch of SunBursts, a yellow cherry tomato packaged as a snack food.

“These tomatoes are sweeter than the typical tomato, the skin is thinner and they’re very juicy,” said Bobby Patton, vice president of marketing. “The variety was really designed with snacking in mind.”

SunBursts are packed in 10.5-ounce resealable containers that are similar to the containers in which the NatureSweet red cherry tomatoes are packed.

“Distribution of the SunBursts is currently limited to Texas retailers, but the company plans to expand distribution in the future,” Patton said.

Desert Glory began shipping the SunBursts in late May.

As with all tomato varieties marketed under the NatureSweet label, the yellow SunBursts are ripened on the vine.

Are Nature Sweets Sunbursts included in the recall of Rio Queen Citrus recall of cherry tomatoes? Just bought the yellow cherries Tuesday. Love this brand. Just wondering. Thanks.
