Misionero Produce is extending its Garden Life line of salads, and showcased the new products at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit 2010.
The base of the salads is the 8-ounce pack of petite hearts from the center of leaf lettuce. The hearts are cut once, eliminating extra injuries to the leaf, said Danny Canales, vice president of sales and marketing for the Gonzales, Calif.-based company.
The Garden Life label also offers a 9-ounce bag of a shredded lettuce blend of iceberg, romaine and cosmopolitan lettuce.
Misionero also showed single-serve organic lettuce kits. The three kits are Southwest Fiesta, Romaine Caesar and American (with a an iceberg lettuce wedge, bacon bits and shredded cheese).
“We're trying to go single-serve and get the price down for retail,” Canales said.
The company plans to market the single-serve organic kits in the first quarter of 2011.
