Courtesy Canadian Food Inspection AgencyThe Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning consumers not to eat cherry tomatoes in clamshells carrying the Krown brand and party trays with cherry tomatoes at Safeway stores because the products may have salmonella.
The Nov. 21 warning affects products distributed to stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, North West Territories and Yukon. They also may have been distributed nationally in Canada, according to the agency.
There have been no illnesses associated with the products.
The Krown cherry tomatoes were packed in 551-ml. (19 ounces) and have Universal Product Codes of 0 33383 65520 8 and were sold from Nov. 13-21. The party trays, sold in different sizes with “various” UPCs, were sold Nov. 12-21, according to the agency.
Krown Produce, Calgary, Alberta, imported the Mexican tomatoes; it and the retailers are working to recall the products and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is “monitoring the effectiveness of the recall,” according to the agency’s notice.
The agency did not report if this is related to the recall of cherry tomatoes from Rio Queen Citrus Inc., also issued Nov. 21 after a Food and Drug Administration test returned a positive finding for salmonella.
