Fresh Express(CORRECTED) Less than a week after recalling expired bags of fresh-cut romaine, Fresh Express issued another recall, again for bags of fresh-cut romaine that had passed their use-by date, because of possible listeria contamination.

The new recall notice, posted on the Food and Drug Administration website Sept. 27, is for 18-ounce bags of hearts of romaine salad with use-by dates of Sept. 26. No illnesses have been reported in relation to the romaine.

The recall states the romaine was distributed to at least 15 states and Washington D.C. The volume of romaine under recall was not included in the notice. Calls to Fresh Express, Salinas, Calif., were not immediately returned.

A random sample of one bag by the U.S. Department of Agriculture returned a positive result for listeria, prompting the recall, according to the notice. The notice did not state when or where USDA collected the sample.

The recalled 18-ounce packages have a produce code of H256A08. Fresh Express began contacting retailers immediately to endure that the product had already been removed from store shelves in accordance with standard procedures for products that have reached their expiration dates, according to the notice.

Publix Super Markets also recalled bagged romaine, supplied by Irwindale, Calif.-based Ready Pac Foods.

On Sept. 25, Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix recalled 10-ounce bags of Publix Hearts of Romaine and Publix Chopped Hearts of Romaine shipped to stores between Sept. 8 and Sept. 20, according to a Publix news release.

Listeria was detected during a routine Food and Drug Administration test.

As of Sept. 28, no illnesses had been reported.

The recall covers Publix stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.

(Note on correction: The original version of this story included an incorrect produce code for the recalled Fresh Express romaine because of erroneous information in the recall notice on the FDA website. Fresh Express officials confirmed that the number in this version of the story is the correct product code.)
