The new product features three varieties: Forest Nameko, Velvet Pioppini and Nebrodini Bianco. It’s the 10th item in the line.
Retail outlets for the new pack include Whole Foods and Northern California Safeway and Raley’s stores. Distribution is national through mainstream and specialty retailers.
“Consumer demand is shifting from 4-ounce packs to 8-ounce sizes as mushrooms take their place in meatless Mondays menus and center-of-the-plate vegetarian meals,” Meg Hill, director of sales and marketing at Sebastopol, Calif.-based Gourmet Mushrooms, said in a news release.
The company markets Specialty Trio for the varieties’ contrasting textures and colors. Velvet Pioppini is tender with dark brown caps; Forest Nameko is brighter with a protein gel cap; and Nebrodini Bianco, which started off as a foodservice product, is firm and white.
With the product launch, Gourmet Mushrooms also unveiled new recipes:
- Mushrooms with curried cashew sauce;
- Miso soup with Forest Nameko;
- Russian kale with Velvet Pioppini and prosciutto; and
- Nebrodini and tomato omelet.
