CORRECTED: Green Giant Fresh moves to pouches

For related news see "Green Giant Fresh rolls out 15 products."

Green Giant FreshCourtesy Green Giant Fresh (CORRECTED Oct. 27) Green Giant Fresh is making many of its products available in pouches and rolling out other packaging changes, including new graphics.

The pouches include quick-response codes, updated cooking icons and nutrition keys that summarize each product’s health benefits.

Products previously available in clamshells will now be available in pouches.

The smartphone scannable codes take consumers to a mobile website with recipes and product information.

“Our goal is to provide additional value to consumers by helping them make in-store decisions,” Mishalin Modena, senior marketing manager for Salinas, Calif.-based Green Giant Fresh, said in a news release.

“Shoppers today want easy access to information so that they can make educated purchases. Our smart packaging design elements help them do that.”

Note on correction: The original story incorrectly stated that Green Giant Fresh ended clamshell packaging.

I would certainly NEVER purchase any fresh produce item that I cannot see. Unless that cucumber pouch has a transparent back, it's going to be a big loser. Even if the back is clear, the opaque front is going to be causing people to squish the cucumbers around in an attempt to see the part of the cucumber that was hidden from view by the bag. Here's an idea, why don't you pack a superior grade product that sells itself, instead of relying on flashy printed graphics?

John, thank you for your interest in the new Green Giant packaging. We agree with you that transparency in packaging is a key benefit for consumers. You'll see in the photo above a large area on the front providing visibility of the cucumbers inside and there is also ample space on the back providing a view to the product as well.

I've purchased broccoli cheddar steamers in the club packs 3 different times now and every package has mostly stems in them, not many of the tops. What do you do with all the tops? I'm pretty sure I've purchased my last :(
