Courtesy Handy Candy LLC(UPDATED COVERAGE, 2:58 p.m., March 28) Handy Candy LLC has added a blueberry cup to its product line.

Birmingham, Ala.-based Handy Candy, formed in 2011 by employees of Birmingham, Ala.-based Flavor-Pic Tomato Co. Inc., introduced its three-ounce Handy Candy Blueberry Cups in early March, said Jerry Williams, a Handy Candy co-owner and Flavor-Pic salesman.

The product is being shipped nationwide, but for now, it will be packed in Birmingham only, Williams said.

“But we are working to expand to other distribution areas once we lock in supplies,” he said. “We feel that the new item will increase once the consumer realizes the value and convenience of the pack.”

Handy Candy hopes to ship 1 million blueberry cup packs this year, Williams said. The new blueberry cup is designed to provide consumers with an affordable, convenient alternative to other packs.

Next on the horizon for Handy Candy are grapes.

“We’re working with farms now, testing shelf life and other factors to insure the pack will have value,” Williams said.

Handy Candy’s first product was a 4-ounce grape tomato cup, introduced in 2011. An organic version followed in 2012. The company was among the winners of the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit Impact awards in 2012.
