The Houston Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association plans to present its annual Gift of Produce Dec. 13.

The event wraps up the distribution of 2.5 million pounds of produce donated to the food bank, an annual gift organized by Houston area produce wholesalers, retailers and distributors.

In the 26 years since the Gift of Produce was first presented, the association has donated nearly 25 million pounds of produce to the food bank, according to a news release.

This year’s featured speaker is Roberta Anding, nutritionist for the Houston Texans.

Houston-based retailer Food Town Grocery Stores also plans to present a $25,000 donation to the food bank at the event.

The presentation is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the St. Vincent de Paul John L. Neighborhood Food Depot, with a display of donated fresh fruits and vegetables starting construction at 6 a.m.
