Courtesy I Love ProduceResponding to retailers' requests for help in controlling shrink, I Love Produce launched these combo packs of specialty onions so that consumers would have access to variety from smaller in-store inventories. A new combo pack of specialty onions from I Love Produce this fall is designed to help retailers reduce shrink while offering consumers more variety.
The new pack includes five varieties of onions in each box: white pearls, red pearls, gold pearls, white boilers and flat, sweet Italian cipollini onions, said Jim Provost, owner of I Love Produce, Kelton, Pa.
“The reason the combo pack came into existence, is retailers asked us for ways to maintain the sales of pearl onions, and at the same time reduce shrink,” Provost said.
The new combo pack boxes will help retailers control shrink because they won’t have to order full boxes of individual onion varieties, he said. The stackable boxes are designed to make retail display convenient.
“The peak pearl onions sales are around Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Other times of the year movement slows,” Provost said.
Rather than sending whole cases with 60 units of each variety, during the slower times of year, packs will be combined so stores can maintain year-round basis, Provost said.
