Melissa’s Produce plans to begin national distribution of two new products — spicy edamame and shirataki noodles — the week of May 13.

They’re part of a series of launches for the Los Angeles-based specialty fruit and vegetable company that will be featured at the company’s United Fresh Produce Association expo booth May 14-16 in San Diego.

The new products join Roasted baby Dutch potatoes, which started shipping in April, and cleaned and sliced leeks, which were introduced in March, according to a news release.

Spicy edamame is a single-serving in a 7-ounce pod. It’s blended with Japanese spices including sesame, soy sauce, salt, ginger and togarashi seasoning. The cooked edamame is ready to eat and can be served cold or heated in the microwaveable bowl.

Sliced cleaned leeksMelissa’s shirataki noodles are available in spaghetti or fettuccini style. Each is packed in water with a shelf life up to one year. The noodles are made from the root of the yam-like konnyaku or konjac plant. The distributor markets them as an alternative to higher-calorie pastas and grains.

Roasted baby Dutch potatoes combine Melissa’s Baby Dutch Yellow and Ruby Gold potato varieties. They ship in a microwaveable bowl, 12-ounce modified atmosphere packaging.

The potatoes are seasoned with olive oil, rosemary, thyme, salt and pepper.

Cleaned and sliced leeks come in a 6-ounce refrigerated package, the equivalent of two whole leeks. Shelf life is just over 10 days, according to the release.
