MountainKing Potato Co. is once again promoting microwaving potatoes before grilling them to save grilling time.

Specially marked packs of the Houston-based company’s russets, reds, Butter Golds and Steakhouse Bakers include a tag with instructions for “8 Minute Grilling” — a process to reduce the amount of time it takes to cook potatoes on a grill, according to a company news release.

According to the instructions, after first cooking the MountainKing potatoes in a microwave, they can be grilled in about the same time it takes to prepare steaks or other meat.

MountainKing began including the instructions as a summer promotion in 2009. In addition to tags on bags, the promotion includes point-of-sale signs and pre-print high-graphic display bins that look like grills.
