Pamela's Kitchen: Wegmans Microwaveable Peas

While I’m a big fan of frozen peas, I hadn’t found any fresh at the store where I live. I picked some up at Wegmans in Buffalo, N.Y., with high hopes that I could convince my husband to eat them. He’s never been a fan of peas, so maybe it was because we’re not used to fresh.

I think the idea of these is great, but they didn’t turn out as I’d hoped.  They were both under and over cooked, if that makes sense, with a bit of a crunch and a slightly plastic-y flavor to them.

The best thing I could think of to do is toss ‘em in the blender with some sour cream and mint and celebrate the impending arrival of the London 2012 Olympics with tasty mushy peas.

Hi Pamela, Thanks for sharing your review of our Cleaned & Cut Shelled Green Peas. We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the product. In fact, your video prompted some additional product testing by both our category merchant and our test kitchen culinary specialist. They found favorable results provided that the package is placed on a microwave-safe plate and the corner of the bag is cut in order to vent during cooking. We will work to do a better job of calling out that instruction in future reprints of the packaging. We recognize that there may be a range of cooking times as microwave ovens vary greatly in size, wattage, and age. We value your feedback and hope you’ll consider giving the peas another try in the future. Thank you for shopping with us! -Valerie Media Specialist, Wegmans Consumer Affairs
