Pure Fresh introduces sweeter blackberry

Courtesy Pure Fresh Miami-based Pure Fresh has introduced a new blackberry variety that has more sugar and longer shelf life than other varieties.

The Stella, a medium-sized berry, is grown by Pure Fresh’s parent company, Planesa, a grower with blackberry plantings in Guatemala and Mexico, according to a Pure Fresh news release.

Planesa put six years of research and development into the Stella, which has a more cylindrical shape than other berries, making it a better fit for clamshells. Stellas will be less likely to burst and leak during transit, according to company officials.

Planesa is the exclusive producer of the Stella in Central America, and pure Fresh is the exclusive importer and marketer.
