Nielsen Perishables analyzes all fresh departments

Syndicated Fresh Reports will be the Nielsen Perishables Group’s first attempt to provide an entire snapshot of supermarket perimeter departments.

The quarterly reports provide aggregated point-of-sale data for all items sold in the fresh departments, including both fixed-weight and random-weight items, according to a news release.

Fresh departments — meat, produce, bakery, deli and seafood — are measured and analyzed in the Syndicated Fresh Reports, according to the release.

Kelli Beckel, senior marketing manager for Chicago-based Nielsen Perishables Group, said the cost of the report varies on parameters of what is included.

“We’re excited about it because it give a total perspective on fresh,” she said.

Lutz Steve Lutz, executive vice president of the Nielsen Perishables Group, West Dundee, Ill., said the report gives the ability to see a store-wide reflection on trends that affect the fresh produce department.

Syndicated Fresh reports will give regional trends in fresh departments and also provide department insights on inflationary pressures, complimentary and competitive fresh categories, fast-growing fresh categories and best opportunities for new product introductions, according to the release.

The reports include data from 18,000 stores, including supermarket retailers as well as alternative channels including SuperTarget, Walmart and Sam’s Club.
