The packaging on 3-pound bags and 5-pound cartons will include images of campaign spokesman and four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon with his No. 24 car, dubbed the Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet.

Eden Prairie, Minn.-based C.H. Robinson has committed to donating at least $25,000 to the AARP Foundation for the initiative in 2012, according to a news release.

“Drive to End Hunger” raises awareness and funds to fight hunger among people ages 50 and up.

A quick-response code, available on both bags and cartons, links to an AARP Foundation website where direct donations can be made. Shoppers donating $24 or more will receive a “Drive to End Hunger” hat.

“This program not only offers unique packaging to shoppers to raise awareness, but also allows us as a company to give back to an important cause,” James Rasmussen, fruit category manager at C.H. Robinson, said in the release.

Since its launch the anti-hunger initiative has donated almost 16 million meals and gained donor commitments with an expected value of more than $17.5 million.
