Wegmans renews price freeze program

Wegmans drops fresh produce prices.In an effort to help shoppers stay on budget while eating healthfully, Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans renewed its price freeze program, including about a dozen fresh produce items.

The price freeze is valid on more than 50 products, according to a news release, and is effective through April 6. Even if Wegmans’ cost for the product goes up, the company plans to keep the retail price the same.

“We believe that our customers should not be forced to buy what’s on ‘sale’ this week,” said president Colleen Wegman, in a news release. “Instead, they should be able to buy what they want, when they want it.”

A list of products in is available on the company’s website, Wegmans.com. It features a variety of branded and private-label items, including:

Bananas for 49 cents a pound;

Red seedless grapes for $1.99 a pound;

5-pound bags of Wegmans-brand white potatoes for $1.99 a pound;

Club packs of Wegmans-brand grape tomatoes for $3.99;

2-pound bags of clementine oranges for $2.99 a pound;

Wegmans-brand club packs of navel oranges for $4.99;

Sunset brand 3-packs of seedless cucumbers for $3.99.
