Wish Farms moves into year-round berries

Plant City, Fla.-based Wish Farms has begun offering year-round supplies of both conventional and organic strawberries and blueberries.

With the Florida strawberry season finished, Wish Farms moved to California, with production in Salinas and Santa Maria.

This will be the first season that the grower-packer also has organic production in California, according to a news release.

“In addition to the expansion of our California strawberry program, our Florida blueberry volume is really starting to pick up,” Gary Wishnatzki, president, said in the release. “We’ve also put resources into increasing our packing capabilities this year.”

Among those are additional blueberry packing lines used for the Florida crop.

The new equipment allows Wish Farms to better serve customers with added packaging flexibility, according to the release.

Multiple clamshell sizes, for example, can be simultaneously packed, making the process more efficient.

To support the year-round berry program, Wish Farms continues its “How’s My Picking?” consumer promotion launched November 2013.

A sticker on each berry package includes a unique 16-digit number that is linked to traceability information, such as variety, day picked and even picking crew.

Consumers can visit the www.howsmypicking.com website, enter the number, take a short survey and receive a Wish Farms reusable shopping bag and an entry into a drawing for a $100 grocery gift card.

“This is the first time we’ve offered feedback incentives,” Amber Kosinsky, marketing director, said in the release. “Since the program launch, we’ve seen a significant increase in surveys; providing valuable consumer data, which we will use to make educated growing and marketing decisions moving forward.”

In coming months, the grower-packer also plans to launch a series of recipe videos as part of its consumer campaign.

Seasonal berry recipes will be featured on the company’s YouTube site and promoted across all social media outlets.
