Associated Wholesale Grocers reports sales up 20%

(April 9) Kansas City, Kan.-based Associated Wholesale Grocers reported net sales of $6.85 billion in 2008, a 20% increase over 2007, according to the Kansas City Star.

The company also has welcomed a new president and chief executive officer, Jerry Garland, an 18-year veteran of the firm.

Garland succeeds Gary Phillips, who is retiring after 35 years with the company.
