Christopher Ranch LLC, Gilroy, Calif., is supplementing its line of garlic with 6-ounce packs of peeled shallots, cipolline onions and pearl onions.

“Christopher Ranch foodservice customers have been enjoying freshly peeled shallots, pearl and cipolline onions for years, so we’re excited to be able to offer these great products to our retail customers,” Bill Christopher, managing partner, said in a news release.

The bags can be displayed either upright or flat and are resealable to keep them fresh until the printed “best before” date, which is five weeks after peeling. They are 100% recyclable, just like the company’s bags of garlic, which have been marketed for years. Christopher Ranch moved its garlic to recyclable packaging almost two years ago.

Specialty onions are used as side dishes and ingredients for larger dishes, but according to the news release, customers have difficulty peeling them. However, the company’s bags of peeled garlic have been successful in various sizes, providing the idea and impetus to convert the idea to specialty onions.
