American Classic labeled produce is now shipping from Coastline Produce.

Coastline starts shipping American Classic produce

The Salinas, Calif.-based company purchased the former Salyer American brand in February but has just begun shipping celery, romaine hearts and head lettuce under the label, said Vivian Sotelo, assistant marketing director.

Coastline is also shipping Greenettes, another former Salyer American brand, and its own Coastline label.

It took over the Greenettes brand in July 2009, and also purchased Brooks, Blue Chip and American Pride labels Feb. 9.

Phil Adrian, vice president at Coastline, said the commodities offered under the American Classic brand could expand depending on what Coastline’s customers are looking for. Many Coastline customers are pleased with the brand’s return because of its popularity among shoppers in certain areas of the U.S.

“We can help them build their business,” Adrian said.

The new labels are part of Coastline’s continued growth, Adrian said, and continuous improvements in its offerings for customers.

American Classic has been around since the 1980s, and was strong in the Boston, Chicago, New York, Detroit, Canadian and international markets, according to the Coastline release.
