Westlake Village-based Dole launched the campaign after the success of a banana-based diet that became a phenomenon in Japan in 2008, according to a Dole news release.
The Dole plan recommends that dieters eat two Dole bananas for breakfast. Bananas contain resistant starch, which encourages fat burning, Nick Gillitt, a researcher at the Dole Nutrition Institute, said in the release.
To promote the diet, Dole will advertise it on banana labels, in-store brochures and other point-of-sale materials and national magazine ads in January.
