Kingsville, Ontario-based Mastronardi Produce Ltd. plans to increase acreage of its One Sweet tomato this summer.
Mastronardi had already boosted acreage of the One Sweet by 300% over its debut year, 2009, but demand has been so strong, the company plans on another increase for the summer, according to a Mastronardi news release.
“The overall response and enthusiasm surrounding One Sweet has been tremendous,” Paul Mastronardi, the company’s president, said in the release. “Kids and parents alike love this tomato. It’s so sweet you would think it was candy.”
The One Sweet is sold at retail in both a dry pint and a bowl clamshell. Mastronardi will showcase the variety at the United Fresh convention April 20-23 in Las Vegas.
