(UPDATED COVERAGE, 11:20 a.m.) Ready Pac Foods Inc. is recalling baby spinach over E. coli fears.

Irwindale, Calif.-based Ready Pac is recalling 702 cases of the baby spinach variety of its Spinach Temptations 6-ounce bagged salads with use-by dates of July 4 and July 8, said Mike Celani, senior vice president of retail sales and marketing.

The products, which the company says could be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, were sold in California, Washington and Arizona.

A random Food and Drug Administration test at a retail store found one confirmed case of E. coli O157:H7. The sample was collected June 28 and confirmed positive for E. coli July 6, said Sebastian Cianci, an FDA spokesman. The FDA notified Ready Pac July 6 and Ready Pac notified retailers July 7, Celani said.

No illnesses related to the salads had been reported as of the morning of July 8, he said.

E. coli O157:H7 found in spinach in 2006 led to 199 illnesses and three deaths.
